On the basis of the lesson learned from the preceding example we can easily comprehend the strategy of the stronger side in the following ending. This position occurred in the game Alekhine-Englund, Scheveningen, 1913. The future world champion easily converted his advantage into victory observing the following principle: the king supports the pawn whilst the knight stops the enemy pawns!

Vlado Kovacevic is a chess grandmaster and an endgame expert. He very successfully competed on the national team. From 2000 – 2004, he acted as selector of the Croatian Men’s national team. He is also a well-known chess author.
