In knight endings with minimal material superiority knight activity is of paramount importance. By the passive knight position a win is possible with the protected passed pawn on the fifth rank even in such cases when the king cannot get to the front of the passed pawn. In such a case the main motif is hunting down the enemy knight combined with the attack on the pawn. A case in point is the position from the game Sanguinetti – Padevsky, Nice Olympiad, 1974.
