The weaker side has good chances of drawing with far-advanced blocked pawn – especially if the pawn cannot be attacked by the enemy king. Draw is usually achieved by tying the enemy knight to the defence of the pawn, although sometimes even a knight sacrifice is possible. Such a case occurred in the ending of the game Gulko – K. Grigorian, USSR Championship, 1974.
