As this book is intended for beginners as well, we shall in the introductory chapter briefly consider all the elementary endings in which the superior side has sufficient mating material.
1.1. King and Queen versus King
1. King and queen always win against a sole king. The winning strategy consists in driving the enemy king to the edge of the board where the final blow will be delivered. The only danger here is a possibility of a stalemate which can easily be avoided by keeping the queen at a sufficient distance.
