When neither side has a protected passed pawn, a distant passed pawn ensures the decisive advantage. Its role is to deflect the opponent’s king whilst enabling own king to achieve winning advantage on the other wing. White wins whoever has the move. The g-pawn will play the main role – it will be sacrificed for a “higher cause”!
