Composed Studies E-book: Pawn Endgames K+3P vs K+2P

White’s task is much more complex when all the pawns are clustered together, especially if the enemy king is active. Such a case is shown in a study by K. Tattersall 1910. At first sight it may appear that the very active Black’s king can compensate material inferiority. However, the potential passed c-pawn is very powerful. By sacrificing it unexpectedly White will cause a complete turnabout.
