In similar positions White wins even with doubled f-pawns – provided his king is active. This point is neatly demonstrated in a study by N. Grigoriev, which is of considerable practical significance. It is obvious that White cannot make any progress on the kingside so he must transfer his king to e4 whilst protecting the f4-pawn.
