Composed Studies E-book: Pawn Endgames Important Endings K+P vs K+P

The complex king manoeuvring for the sake of guiding the rival to an unfavourable square is also the theme of a study by N. Grigoriev ( 1928 ) .

Critical moments:

2.Kd5! Having barred the shortest route to the black king towards the e8-square and stopped temporarily the b-pawn, White will have considerable advantage in the ensuing pawn race. Black's only hope is to circumvent the barrier.
6.Kf7 White does not allow the saving Ke8. Despite his king temporarily standing in the way of its own pawn, White is quicker because he will promote with check. The black king has again been guided to an unfavourable square!
