Q-8a

E-book: Queen Endgames Q vs P

What’s left to do in this case is to establish boundaries of area in which the white king can get in time to help the queen fighting the c-pawn on the seventh rank. If we know that two potential mating focal-points are a2 and e2, then the area is bounded by one move distance form e2 square and two move distance from b3 square because in these cases White can allow queening of black pawn. It means that the boundary goes along fifth rank from a5 to d5, along forth rank from e4 to g4 and along g-file to g1 square. Let’s first look at the position with white king on g4 .
